Publisher's summary

Author's note: Although this series is loosely connected to The Billionaire's Obsession series, it stands alone. But this is a steamy alpha billionaire romance, so skip it if you dislike sensual romance and explicit language.

Trace and Eva's story:

My name is Eva Morales, and I was one step away from being homeless when Trace Walker came into my life. I want to hate him because of my past, but I end up making what I consider a "devil's bargain" with the arrogant young billionaire instead. Really, I have no choice. It's either take the work he's offering or starve, and I've been hungry long enough.

I didn't think being his fake fiancée for the holidays would be a difficult job, but it ends up more complicated than I ever imagined, and I see a whole new side of Trace once he lets his guard down. He's haunted by his past - just like me, but there are things I can never tell him, secrets I don't dare reveal.

Eventually, I find myself in a difficult situation because our volatile attraction to each other won't be denied. Should I tell him the truth, or do I finish the job he's paying me for and walk away with my secrets still hidden, my pride still intact? He's paying me enough for this job to take care of myself once it's over. I've always been alone, and I always thought I preferred it...until I met Trace. I'd have to put everything on the line to be honest with him, but he very well might be the first man who is worth the risk. Honestly, I'd be endangering more than just my pride. I could handle feeling like a loser, because I've pretty much felt that way my entire life. What really terrifies me is being vulnerable and the possibility of ending up with a shattered heart....

Had hard time listening to the end

It seemed like the author was trying to rush through the characters and their stories. A lot of repetitious dialog, very corny towards the end. Also wasn't a fan of the narrator.

So damn much

Seriously, I think at minimum 40% of this book was the words "so damn much" and "fuck me". There was never having sex, making love, screwing, nothing. Only fucking. Which is cool and all but lacks variety. Story was fine just wished maybe a thesaurus was used a bit more.

Not even at $2 daily deal price

Yeesh. She’s beyond poor (practically homeless), He’s a billionaire who’s given up on love. It’s all sappy talk and angsty backstories ... except when they talk about Fing... then it’s all F bombs, and cave man “you’re mine” utterances and zero chemistry. Zip. Nada. Zilch. The longer I listened, every little thing grated ... down to the sound effect every time he boxes the punching bag... like my head hitting the wall in exasperation. Bap. Bap. Bap. My first and last book by this author.

Shocking, compelling, , anger_sad, happy ..I cried

Would you listen to Release! again? Why?

Yes. I have bookmarked chapters. Written beautifully about the love two people can deeply share- finding support and each other. I was convinced. Although I have never found this love for me; I was convinced reading the experience they shared. I felt like Eva at times.

What other book might you compare Release! to and why?

I can't compare - only comment on this one artistic creation. That said, I will say some people's reviews are so cynical. One should review a book with the ideas becoming a picture in our hearts and minds. Don't read if you shut out the journeys to wherever it takes you. Let it challenge your empathy and imagination. I am afraid of vampires but I am going to read the vampire coalition- to understand - to live among them. I am sure Scott will make it familiar to me and not trump up fear before I feel it. Fear won't be the motive. She dealves so deeply into real things that emotions just emerge.

Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Powers – was your favorite?

I love everything she narrates. Every time she narrates I hear New voices -very talented. The love scenes with expressed with a rescuing quality....salvation.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Eva was leaving and Trace expression of what a true union between two people means. They would face life's trials together. A desperately needed value in these Times.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next book in the series

this one isn't working for me

2 hrs in, I don't care for the narration. It is difficult to tell thought from dialogue, that has become a serious pet peeve with audio books. It messes with the story. Probably a spoiler, but the step-sibling thing is a non-issue anywhere if they weren't raised together. I don't feel the attraction between the characters, Eva keeps thinking about something in her past that is so bad. I'll give it a little longer, maybe it'll click.

Trace & Eva’s Chemistry Sizzles!

Trace & Eva’s Chemistry Sizzles As The Twisted Family Ties And Eva’s Sad History Unfold! Trace Has His Own Issues To Deal With As He And His Brothers Finally Try To Come To Grips With The Past.

This series is a spin-off from Billionaire Unbound, book eight in The Billionaire’s Obsession series, which is Chloe Colter and Gabe Walker’s story. Here Gabe’s cousins get a series all their own. Like Gabe, his cousins Trace, Sebastian, and Dane hale from Texas. They faced tragedy six years ago when their newly remarried father died along with Karen, their new stepmother, in a plane crash. Dane, the youngest brother and recent high school graduate, had been on the plane as well. He survived, but barely. His body is marred in scars, a reminder of that day that changed young Dane’s life forever. It changed them all. Trace and Sebastian had been in college and had not been on the plane. They had survivor’s guilt. Dane turned to seclusion and immersed himself in art. Sebastian gave up on ambition and lived life in the fast lane without a care in the world. And at age twenty-one Trace, the eldest, had been forced to tone back his aspirations and instead take over running the family business. He had just graduated from college and was planning on earning his MBA.

Trace Walker, twenty-seven, has been head of the Walker family for six years now. His life took a turn for the serious side after the accident took his father’s life. Trace’s life is rigid and controlled – everything is about control. He runs the family business, which includes Walker Escapes, a string of luxury resorts with locations around the world. Like his cousin Gabe, Trace chose to move to Colorado, and his corporate headquarters were eventually relocated to Denver. He had managed to complete his MBA while managing the helm, and continues to keep the company thriving. When not at work he works on his MMA fighting skills. As for women he has had many, but he never gets emotionally attached. Britney finally talked him into a monogamous relationship, and he conceded out of convenience, but a year later she had become a nightmare. With the holidays approaching, he dreads her finding an opportunity to burrow into his life again, but thankfully Chloe Walker, Gabe’s wife, has promised to send a friend to him that might be willing to help him out.

Evangelina Guadalupe Morales, twenty-three, was desperate when she entered the Walker building in Denver to see Trace Walker. She was poor and hungry, and finding employment had been quite a challenge given her history. Her father died when she was fourteen and she has been lost ever since. He had never made much, but he had loved her and provided as best he could as a migrant worker from Mexico. Her American mother had always resented Eva, whose presence kept her married and away from the wealthy family that had disowned her. She never made a secret of how much she hated Eva, and when Eva had grown and finished school her mother simply left her on her own.

When Eva enters Trace’s office, she asks him for a job. Any job. But Trace has another idea when he sees Eva, and something strange possesses him. He mistakes her for Chloe’s friend and offers her fifty thousand dollars to be his fake fiancée over the holidays to help keep a certain female in check. Eva has many reservations, but Trace is used to getting what he wants. And the sassy mouth and fiery Latina attitude have him feeling emotions he hadn’t know he was capable of. Learning that Eva is the step-sister he never knew about does nothing to deter him from his plan.

Trace and Eva’s chemistry sizzles as the twisted family ties and Eva’s sad history unfold. Trace has his own issues to deal with as he and his brothers finally try to come to grips with the past. Their story is intense and rewarding. Sebastian’s story follows next, and Dane’s wraps up the series. The story is well-written and plot-driven. The characters are nicely developed. It is written in first person. The POV alternates between Trace and Eva. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

As for the Audio: it is well-performed and consistent with the book.

Really wish the narrator used different voices

The narrator used only one voice for all the characters, so there are times I lost track of who was talking or thinking. It would have been great if she used some fluctuation. Great story and fantastic characters, Loved it! Looking forward to the next book ❣️

Utterly silly.

This is a clumsily cobbled-together piece of nonsense which stretches the bounds of credulity beyond breaking point. It contains just about every cliché and coincidence imaginable for the weakest of fairy stories yet has not one whit of humour to leaven it's predictability. The worst news is that it is the first of a trilogy.
