Publisher's summary

The creator of The Fat-Burning Man Show shares his revolutionary Paleo-inspired weight-loss program

Every month, half a million visitors download The Fat-Burning Man Show, eager to learn the secret of Abel James’s incredible weight-loss success. Growing up on a defunct farm in the backwoods of New Hampshire, James had easy access to a host of natural foods that a backyard garden could provide: eggs, fresh produce, and real butter. But as he got older, he started eating a "modern diet" of processed foods, and by his early twenties, James found himself with high blood pressure, insomnia, acne, digestive problems, and love handles. Following the typical dieting advice of “eat less, exercise more,” and despite running thirty miles a week and nibbling tasteless, low-fat, low-calorie food, his health only worsened as his waistline expanded.

In an effort to gain control of his health, James dug deep into nutrition research and discovered that everything he’d been told about low-calorie eating was wrong. He realized that our bodies are wired to eat luxuriously—and burn fat—as long as we’re eating real, natural foods that are grown on a farm and not in a factory. Incredibly, after just a few days of eating the most delicious "wild" foods that were rich in fat and fiber, James’s health problems began to disappear. And after forty days—and radically cutting back his exercise routine—he had lost twenty pounds.

The Wild Diet is the book James’s hundreds of thousands of fans have been clamoring for. At a time when our collective health is failing, James sounds a clarion call to announce that good health doesn’t live in a pill, exercise program, or soul-crushing diet. The secret is simply getting back to our wild roots and eating the way we have for centuries.

Includes a bonus PDF of meals and recipes from the book.

A leading voice in new media, Abel James is a bestselling author, musician, and talk show host. As the #1 most popular health podcast in 8+ countries, Abel's award-winning show, Fat-Burning Man, has helped millions reclaim their health with real food, cutting-edge science, and primal workouts. When his cooking app, Caveman Feast, bested The Food Network, Nickelodeon, and even Angry Birds with more than 1,000 5-star reviews in the 24 hours, Abel became the first independent publisher ever to hold Apple's #1 food app and #1 podcast at the same time.

Critic reviews

"A word of caution: Everything you think you know about diet and exercise is probably wrong. It’s time to change your relationship to fat, whole grains, sugar, the pizza delivery guy, and even your treadmill. The Wild Diet flies in the face of the outdated advice touted by health and wellness 'experts', and gives you real-life strategies to lose fat and get fit as quickly as possible. In a sea of marketing hype, Abel James is a powerful and authentic voice that speaks the truth." (Jonathan Bailor, New York Times best-selling author of The Calorie Myth)

"If you’ve been yo-yo dieting and surviving on prepackaged 'health foods' with little or no results, you owe it to yourself to read The Wild Diet. Abel James shows you how to optimize your workout, diet, and habits to take your health back into your own hands. Abel rocks a chiseled 6 pack and makes it look easy. As the owner of a 1-pack, I marvel at his lean body mass!" (Sara Gottfried, MD, New York Times best-selling author of The Hormone Cure)

"In The Wild Diet, Abel shatters conventional wisdom and gives us the truth about what it takes to be lean and healthy without obsessing about what we eat. There's a reason Abel’s Fat Burning Man show has become #1 in 8 countries and I have no doubt that The Wild Diet will be just as well received. Abel’s message is simple, pragmatic, and can get you lasting results in less time and with less effort than you’d probably expect." (Yuri Elkaim, New York Times best-selling author of The All-Day Energy Diet)

Great content, but not good for audio (lists)

I would have loved to read this on paper. As wonderful as listening to Abel may be (seriously the guy has a great voice) it was hard hard to get through all of the lists (suggested foods, for example)

Wild diet changed my Life

I have always been a relatively healthy eater, but hearing more about how the food industry works really changed the way me and my fiancée approach what we eat. We now adhere to the Wild diet and are loving every meal! We don't just eat to eat now, we turn ever dinner into a event with great anticipation that we truly enjoy together. This book didn't only change the way we eat, it strengthened our relationship by spending more quality time together.

Sums up the knowledge of the Fat-burning Man Podcast and creates an easily digestible guide to the new frontier of health

Abel touches on nearly everything you need to know for a healthy life way. He even gives you guidance on the family dog and your children. This may be the best source for everyone looking for nutritional change. It's simple, straight forward, and succinctly written. It would take ten books to garner what he has put together here; from bio-hacks to standing desks he covers the gamut. Thank you.

The only 'diet' book I would ever recommend.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Abel's voice is fluid, pleasant, and very optimistic/positive. It aligns well with his narrative. Content is great, and what I love most - the simplicity. I don't see how anyone could truly argue with his message - use logical sense when making food decisions, eat light through the day, and TREAT yourself to a healthy, sensible meal that is focused on local produce/meat, capped with a healthy dessert; all shared in the comfort of your best friends and family. Since the creation of man - isn't that one of the most important pillars of life?

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wild Diet?

numerous. 1) fast. As a weight lifter and someone dedicated to their physique - including muscle mass - I have avoided fasting for years out of fear of muscle loss. After trying a diet the way Able sets it up, I have found that it is no longer a concern. It's hard to describe, but for me, the mental discipline that comes with fasting is very freeing. 2) As referenced above, the message of simplicity. Rarely does Abel present absolutes - and for those that he does - it comes back to common sense. 3)Slow down. Enjoy food. Enjoy the company you share it with. 4) nothing in this book is earth shattering, and that is the beauty. No potions, pills, or magic formulas. Go to the farmers market, make friends with those that care for your food, use your vote (financially) to show that you care where your food comes from, and eat the way our ancestors did. The end of the book had me self reflecting - did our ancestors prior to technology (as we know it today) really have it that bad? Growing their own food, owning their own land -treating themselves periodically to family traditions and delicacies in the form of sweet treats - with the backbone of their diet revolved around the food from the ground outside and the animals that grazed it.

Any additional comments?

I encourage everyone who has a slight interest in bio-hacking to follow and listen to Abel James. I think he is of tremendous character and has found, in a lot of ways, the key to living life the way it was intended. His podcasts are truly industry leading. Coming from someone who constantly studies the body, nutrition, hypertrophy, etc - I am constantly surprised by how fresh his podcast material is. Keep it Abel!

A lot more than just a book about healthy eating

I have read extensively on this subject and I have to say this is probably the best book on healthy eating and lifestyle I have read.

Titling any book a 'diet' book runs the risk that it sounds like just another eating plan. This book is much more than that and describes not only how to eat but also healthy lifestyle practices that go hand in hand with a healthy eating regime. A better title [though maybe not usable] would be "eat and live the way your body was designed to"
A great book. Read it. Share it.

food companies must hate him

good tips good list. pharmaceutical and food companies must hate Abel James. I don't think this book is a diet plan but an explanation of Health, a reminder of what we should be doing. this book resonates with me very well. confirmation that Jonathan bailor and Shawn Stevenson were right at least for me.
